SPORT FISHING FOR KIDS

			Like every year, the expectations for the Puerto Vallarta Fishing Club were exceeded by far and by all the kids who participated in this activity. Nearly 500 participants were registered for the “Children’s Day” Fishing Tournament. All the children and parents were served refreshments and good food to hold up for the competition that lasted four hours. This Traditional Children’s Day” Fishing Tournament is very popular so everyone excitedly came to the site at the Marina. There were 387 registrations and each one was given a fishing t-shirt. The most important thing about this competition is the children’s enthusiasm.
There are all kinds of competitors, the ones who dream about catching a big fish and want to fight for the first place and get the best prize; others just want “in” for the fun; and others who just want eat all the goodies the Fishing Club offers them, like hotdogs, tostadas, soft drinks, ice creams and lollipops. The fishing club’s President is Jesus Avelar. Even before 8:30 a.m., the line to bring forth the catch was endless; these fish were weighed and then thrown back to the sea. It was a tight competition because the match was good, but everyone knew that the deadline was 12:00 o’clock noon and then the winner would be announced. There were kids who arrived at about 10 a.m., like Emiliano García Peña and luckily won the second place in the junior’s Category. He was really lucky because other kids arrived before 8 a.m. and went home empty-handed. Nevertheless the organizers gave away lots of balls, coloring books, awards, and free drinks and food.
Some of the Fishing Club members say that maybe next year there will be a bigger number of winners, let’s put it this way, more prizes, or maybe they will think of a strategy so they can make children happy, because there has been an increasing demand for this tournament. We would like to mention the winners of the “Children’s Day” Fishing Tournament 2007, in the Junior’s Category, from ages 2 -8. The winner is Juan Esteban García with a 990 gram red snapper Patsy Noemí Castillón won the first place from ages 9-12 se with a 1.150 kilogram Buffer, both of them took home a beautiful bike.
